In soviet Russia, Mobile phone throws you!

Like most innovative sports, their origins can often be traced back to Russia.  In a mobile phone Olympiad, it appears that participants compete in many events, using mobile phones as the focus. This is the 8th Annual Mobile Phone Throwing championship of Belarus. Throwing for distance and accuracy. Not sure how Shoulder-mounted, pole-whacking (based on the second picture) fits in there.  

My question is really this:  Could I throw a stumpy Nokia feature phone further than a sleek and thin iPhone4?
