This morning, to little fanfare, Photoshop Express (beta) launched to the world. Why am I not incredibly impressed? First, I prefer working with vectors, because I love infinite scalability. Second, who is going to use this product? I see two types of people in the world (I know, that's a lot of people)-- those that use Photoshop already, the desktop version for Mac, PC, or whatever: These are people, not necessarily professionals, who buy or pirate copies of this software, do anything from terrible to amazing work, and have a certain way of doing things. Then there are the other 99% of people who know how to work their computer and digital camera and get their pictures onto Flickr, Facebook, etc. These people don't Care about photo editing. They can barely wait to get their latest drunken night of debauchery, bachelorette party, new baby, or vacation photos OFF their camera and onto the web. Do they want to adjust Hue and Saturation or anything else 'Photoshoppy' or do they just want to get the pictures up and start commenting on them. Granted, image storage, image tweaking (crop, rotate, resize, etc) are useful features--- But most sites (if they don't suck at providing what their members/users want) already have the tools to do these minor changes on the fly as the photos are uploaded. So-- are you a person who will not use PsE because you already use full Photoshop, or are you a person who will not use PsE because you don't care to change your photos before you upload them for the world to see? Other than that, I think it's a great idea... Link: http://www.photoshop.com/express/ Press Release: http://biz.yahoo.com/iw/080327/0380010.html
